Rubino Restaurant Valletta, Malta

Rubino’s established in 1906 is situated in the heart of Valletta in Old Bakery Street very close to the Manoel Theatre.
Originally opened as a confectionary, it now also offers food with an emphasis on Maltese and Italian cuisine whilst still keeping to the authentic recipes that has made Rubino’s the established name it is today.
Rubino’s success in reviving Maltese recipes that aren’t used that much anymore, make them popular with regular clients, business elite, film crews as well as tourists who come looking for authentic Maltese food in a charming and lively location.

Michael and Karl Diacono have been managing Rubino’s since June 2008 and together with Johann Chetcuti the choice of food is an enticing variety of exquisite Maltese and Italian cuisine. The converted cellar, still bearing the original facade has a capacity of 45 seats spread over three floors having the lowest level as a cellar with enough space for four tables making it ideal for a private rendezvous for up to 12 persons.

At Rubino’s the choice of food is extensive and varied with an emphasis on Maltese traditional recipes to recreate that homely atmosphere.
We strive to offer local favorite dishes such as baked pasta or ghagin grieg, sfinec ta l-incova – a deep fried savory doughnut with anchovies.
A selection of mezes with different Maltese dishes/appetisers, served with the famous Valletta crusty bread is a firm favourite with both locals and foreigners.
Additionally Rubino’s also offers a variety of pastas, a selection of stuffed Maltese vegetables, lamb, rabbit(usually on Tuesdays) and our famous Tagliata which is prime grilled beef served sliced with Parmesan shavings.

Fish also plays an important part in our menu with Malta’s very own Lampuki cooked in a pie or fried with a salsa piccante

Rubino’s is renowned for desserts most especially the Cassata Siciliana and the Cannoli which are also made to order. Other sweets include the Cassata Gelato – a Maltese layered ice-cream – and the Torta tal-Marmurat made with chocolate, crushed biscuits, nuts and candied peel.

Rubino’s is open Monday to Friday for lunch and Tuesday, Thursday to Saturday for dinner as well as Sunday mornings for sweets.
