Things to do in Mellieha
The locals are proud to present Mellieha with all its natural beauty of blue sea and beautiful country views that inspire the artists. The parish church so high on the hill reminds one of Malta’s victorious day. In summer, Ghadira beach is so popular every year tourists keep coming to admire the beauty of the surroundings.
Ghadira beach is a large sandy beach, a favourite spot with families who spend the day. Facilities such as sun beds and umbrellas are available for rent as well as plenty of snack bars a and small cafeterias. The beach also offers various water fun activities such as pedal boat rentals, parasailing or large floating play areas.
Ghadira Nature Reserve
The Nature Reserve has been declared a bird sanctuary since 1978. It has types of habitat that are very rare in Malta, the wetland and the salt marsh. An ideal place for bird watching and look out for various species of birds.
There is another bay further north, a sandy beach called Armier with a lovely view of the islands of Comino and Gozo. Bars and Restaurants provide the necessary beach facilities.
The Red Tower
The tower is also known as St. Agatha’s Tower, its location guards the bays of Mellieha and Ghajn Tuffieha. The Red Tower was a signalling post for communication with Gozo, the sister island. It had a cannon, housing 30 men and had enough food to withstand a war for 40 days.
Mellieha Village Feast
The village feast is dedicated to Our Lady of Victories which is celebrated 8th of September. Mellieha is full of life during the feast with musical concerts, fireworks, folk singing, food stands and art exhibitions as well as religious processions.
